Technology Trends Impacting Enterprise Business Environment

our transformation journey encompasses several new trends; mobility, CAD and ubiquitous collaboration that will take place over the next 2-3 years.

Newport News Shipbuilding has initiated a plan for IT and business transformation that began in late 2011. The plan encompasses essential technology elements necessary to enable this transformation and provide use of digital data, simplify access to decision-making information and improve availability of application from all areas of the shipyard.

Cyber and information security has, and will always be, a primary focus for us as we continue to design and build the most sophisticated ships in the world. Other areas of our transformation journey include providing mobile applications via wireless handheld devices while utilizing digital 3D product model data for engineering, waterfront engineers and manufacturing. Another area of focus is on an improved user experience through a ‘single sheet of glass,’ therefore providing easier access (but always secure) and improved collaboration.
